Forensic and Valuation Services (FVS) Manager– Valuation Services
Position Summary:
Within Forensic and Valuation Services (FVS), Grant Thornton Valuation Services Group (VSG) provides financial advisory services to privately held, and publicly-traded companies. Core service offerings include business, equity, and asset valuations for a variety of purposes such as financial and tax reporting, mergers and acquisitions in domestic and cross border transactions.
Grant Thornton is looking for an FVS Manager - Valuation Services to join our San Francisco office and take an active role within client valuations. At Grant Thornton, our professional staff applies traditional and cutting edge valuation approaches and methods to a variety of corporate finance analyses. As part of our team, the FVS Manager- Valuation Services will utilize discounted cash flow models, trading and acquisition multiples, and the use of derivatives, binomial, and Monte Carlo simulation models to value tangible and intangible assets in purchase price allocations and equity and debt securities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Prepare project scoping to identify appropriate valuation methodology and risk assessment of engagement in order to determine fees; • Manage the valuation model development by staff members, and coordinate team efforts to maintain project compliance with relevant regulatory guidance (FASB pronouncements, IRS Tax Code, Business Valuation literature); • Monitor concurrent assignments to ensure agreement with the scope of the engagement, timely fulfillment of deadlines and overall quality of deliverable product; • Maintain and develop professional relationship with clients and assist partners and senior managers with business development and marketing efforts; • Support audit process through expert review of valuations and other financial analyses and provide assessment of reasonableness and risk of audit positions based on valuations; • Monitor continuously utilization and chargeability of staff in order to keep track of engagement progress and budget reconciliation; • Utilize models to quantify marketability discounts (protective put, Longstaff, Finnerty models); • Actively participate in firm-wide efforts to develop valuation model templates in response to changes in regulatory environment and financial research guidelines; • Closely manage day-o-day performance of team members; complete periodic and annual evaluations and deliver feedback and career guidance; • Design and deliver internal technical training courses.
Qualifications
Required Skills and Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Business Administration or related field and 5 years of experience; • Prior exp. must include: managing valuation projects including business enterprise valuation, purchase price allocation and intangible asset valuation pursuant to FASB ASC 805 for financial reporting purposes; • Reviewing valuation analyses prepared by third-party appraisers or client management, including valuation of portfolio companies held by private equity or venture capital investors, purchase price allocation, goodwill impairment tests, and common stock valuation; • Performing goodwill impairment tests pursuant to FASB ASC 350 for financial reporting purposes; • Performing finite-lived intangible asset impairment tests pursuant to FASB ASC 360 for financial reporting purposes.
