C-SFTS Accounting Methods Manager (Metro NY Offices)
The Strategic Federal Tax Services (SFTS) Practice – Accounting Methods practice at Grant Thornton LLP uses specialized tax resources to conduct Tax Accounting Methods Reviews. Our employees in this area enjoy rewarding careers as tax specialists providing tax consulting to large domestic and multinational corporations in both a public company and privately held setting. By properly identifying accounting method opportunities, we help our clients maximize their cash flow and realize substantial savings to defer revenue recognition and accelerate tax deductions.

The SFTS Accounting Method Manager will be responsible for designing, implementing, and executing accounting methods reviews to our existing clients as well as industry specific up market tax clients. This will entail leading, developing and mentoring engagement teams along with the marketing and successful sales aspects as well. The SFTS Accounting Methods Group consists of regional teams directed by a national leader.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The tasks presented below are general in nature. Additional specific tasks will be discussed during the interview.

Adhere to the highest degree of professional standards and strict client confidentiality.

Supervise Accounting Method projects - Managers have the primary responsibility to ensure that Accounting Method projects are conducted in accordance with firm standards and completed on time with on budget. Candidates must demonstrate strong leadership and supervisory skills. Prior supervisory experience is required.

Conduct fieldwork - Due to the size of our regional teams and engagements, managers will be expected to assist in conducting fieldwork. This may include visiting the client location, investigating relevant facts, analyzing accounting information, completing appropriate tax computations, and preparing written memorandum summarizing the findings.

Travel - Typically some travel is required in the NE Region. Travel is dependent on location, size of the local market, size of projects, etc.

Client communication - Managers will be required to communicate with clients both verbally and in written form.

Manage Client Base - Managers will be required to "multi-task" and manage numerous project tasks at once. Project managers will be ultimately responsible for the overall project and deliverable. Managers are expected to initiate internal communication regarding status of tasks, relevant technical issues discovered, status of work load, expected due dates, etc.

Lead and participate in professional development and training sessions on a regular basis.

Business Development – Lead sales presentations for both existing and prospective clients for accounting methods reviews. -Perform other job-related duties as necessary.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

* Master's degree in Taxation is strongly preferred; CPA or legal background will be considered if substantial accounting and quantitative skills
* A minimum of five to seven years of experience in Tax with at leastfour years of experience in supervising Accounting method review engagements preferably in a BIG 4 or comparable size public accounting or consulting firm.
* Intermediate understanding of tax return mechanics.
* Strong verbal communication. Candidate must demonstrate ability to clearly communicate verbally.
* Strong writing skills. Candidate must demonstrate ability to clearly communicate in writing.
* Project management. Candidate must demonstrate ability to manage time, multi-task, and meet deadlines.
* Excel skills.Candidate must have solid abilities to analyze and summarize data with accuracy
* Teamwork. Candidate must demonstrate experience in working as a productive member of a team.
* Ability to work additional hours as needed and travel to various client sites.
