Proposal Managers each lead a team of proposal professionals, by industry, within theStudio. TheStudio is a national center of excellence for proposal management where strategy, innovation and creativity are driven into all proposals, RFPs, Statements of Qualifications, placemats and oral presentations associated with pursuits (note: this does not include presentations not associated with specific pursuit opportunities). The industry proposal team manager is responsible for leading an industry-focused team of proposal managers whose core function is to win business through strategic messaging, project management and proposal writing. This team supports all proposals that arise across the country within its targeted industry.
TheStudio’s five target industries include Consumer Industrial Products, Technology, Not-for-Profit/Higher Education/Government, Financial Services, and General (including Construction, Real Estate, Health Care, Hospitality and a special focus on Advisory content development).
Duties and Responsibilities
Leadership – Lead a team of proposal professionals, proactively serving as a coach focused on the development and career progression of members of the team to ensure highest likelihood of success for individuals. Actively engage with team members on a regular basis to monitor their progress and development. Engage with local office leadership to resolve conflicts and address issues that may arise with team members throughout the pursuit process. The coaching and development duties are performed daily and not just during midyear and year-end reviews.
Agent of Change – The industry proposal team manager plays a critical role in driving and leading change within Grant Thornton’s marketing and sales (M&S) organization, keeping a positive attitude and working closely with the team to make its efforts successful. The leader frames the role and duties of the team in the context of the overarching M&S and firmwide strategy, aligning efforts and responsibilities with organizational goals
Role Development and Training – Because theStudio is new to the firm, the industry proposal team managers play a large role in developing, structuring, launching and conducting training for associated members of the proposal team. The industry proposal team manager works closely with theStudio leader to create related infrastructure critical to the role and takes the lead on hiring and training the team.
Help Build theStudio Culture – Host and lead regular team meetings to support proposal teams’ development in the role, and build a culture of strategic thinking, innovation, creativity, positivity and fun.
Traffic Management and Assignment – Manage incoming proposal traffic, gather pertinent information from local leaders, determine appropriate level of support and assign proposal professional.
Tracking – Using a database, track all proposal information required to develop weekly, monthly and quarterly reports. Ensure data is accurate and updated real-time.
Reporting – Develop and present weekly activity report to theStudio leader that summarizes activity, success rate and progress on initiatives. Work with theStudio leader to develop quarterly reporting summarizing success rates, summary of what’s winning in respective industry and key takeaways for use in the field.
Innovation and Creativity – Develop (and encourage the development) of innovative and creative proposal techniques to increase our likelihood of winning proposals. Take the lead on socializing and indoctrinating best practices across the team.
Proposal Strategy – Encourage and develop members of the team to identify winning strategies by understanding the buyer’s needs, challenging the status quo and creating proposals that are customized and tailored to the target audience.
Communication – Participate in regular theStudio manager steering committee meetings to share best practices, information, problem solving, etc., with other managers in theStudio. Incorporate best practices from other teams to improve process consistency throughout theStudio. Contribute to quarterly newsletter as needed.
Collaboration – The industry proposal team manager must ensure and facilitate a high level of collaboration between multiple stakeholders within the marketing and sales organization. The industry proposal team manager works directly with theStudio’s knowledge manager and the national industry marketing leaders to continuously refine content strategy/messaging to best position Grant Thornton to win.
Proposal Management – Serve as a proposal manager, with overall responsibility for transforming the technical and business insights of client teams into clear, compelling, winning proposals. The manager will lead major (high dollar, high visibility) proposals in their area of designation. Lead by example.
Conflict Resolution – The industry proposal team manager engages with partners to resolve any conflicts and needs that might arise, but does so in a highly collaborative and respectful manner. Communicate with members of the team to ensure takeaways and learning development when conflicts arise.
Branding theStudio – Elevate theStudio’s reputation and strengthen brand by team building, demonstrating strategic sales process through proposal management, resolving issues as they arise, communicating results and findings, and creating best practices to increase success rate.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, English, journalism or related field.
Seven plus years of marketing experience; professional services experience.
Sound skill with Microsoft applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
