Tax Reporting & Advisory Services (TRA) Associate

POSITION SUMMARY:

Grant Thornton’s responsive, partner-led Tax service teams help dynamic companies navigate complexity and grow with insightful, practical tax advice. In addition to tax professionals across the United States, our Washington National Tax Office provides deep technical knowledge and responsive support in local, state, federal and international tax. Our tax services include: compliance, human capital services, federal tax services, international tax services, state and local tax services, private wealth services, tax reporting and advisory, partnership taxation, not-for-profit tax, and mergers & acquisition tax services.

The TRA Associate works closely with staff on all phases of project and engagement management for multiple clients. The TRA team provides a variety of services to our clients in the areas of tax outsourcing, tax and finance optimization, tax technology and implementation as well as IFRS conversion.

The TRA Associate is responsible for income and non-income based tax preparation, statutory income compliance and consulting, transactional taxes, transfer pricing documentation and evaluation; reviewing the tax flow and tax functioning of our clients' operations, assisting in the evaluation and implementation of tax software and technology to increase efficiency as well as a variety of other job tasks depending on the engagement.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Assist the TRA team with client engagements from start to finish, including preparation of tax returns, planning, executing, directing, and completing tax projects and managing to budget.
Adhere to the highest degree of professional standards and strict client confidentiality.
Research and consult on various tax matters.
Utilize Tax-related software to prepare and process returns.
Respond to inquiries from the State and other tax authorities.
Maintain a good working relationship with clients and work effectively with client management and staff at all levels to gather information and perform tax services.
Work closely with senior associates and managers to promptly resolve client problems or tax issues encountered in preparation process.
Gain understanding of client operations, processes, and business objectives, and utilize that knowledge on engagements.
Attend professional development and training sessions on a regular basis.
Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Bachelors' degree in Accounting. A minimum of a 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale is required. 150 semester hours of education is preferred. Possess or desire to obtain CPA license.
A minimum of one year or one busy season of tax consulting experience.
Experience in public accounting is a plus.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Strong teamwork and analytical skills and attention to detail.
Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
Ability to work additional hours or travel as needed.
