Tax Manager Regulated Investment Companies “RICs" Manager

POSITION SUMMARY:

Grant Thornton’s responsive, partner-led Tax service teams help dynamic companies navigate complexity and grow with insightful, practical tax advice. In addition to tax professionals in more than 50 offices around the United States, our Washington National Tax Office provides deep technical knowledge and responsive support in local, state, federal and international tax. Our tax services include: compliance, human capital services, federal tax services, international tax services, state and local tax services, private wealth services, tax reporting and advisory, partnership taxation, not-for-profit tax, and mergers & acquisition tax services.

Position summary:

We are seeking a motivated Manager to join our growing Financial Services Tax Practice in Philadelphia which is primarily focused on tax compliance, tax consulting and tax outsource review services for RICs and tax compliance and tax consulting services for Business Development Companies “BDCs”, hedge funds and private equity funds. The services will be performed in our Philadelphia office and at our client sites, primarily, Chesterbrook, PA and Oaks, PA

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Independent, efficient and high quality oversight, review and timely delivery of a full range of tax compliance and tax consulting services within our RIC and financial partnership areas of the Asset Management Tax Practice including RIC tax outsource review services for large mutual fund administrators and tax provision support & tax return preparation services for our RIC, BDC, hedge fund and private equity fund audit engagements.

Evaluate
the tax aspects of partnership agreements and follow up as appropriate.

Direct and monitor the state tax compliance and composite filing activities for our hedge and private equity clients.

Manage multiple engagements simultaneously to budget beginning with client engagement and planning through timely delivery and billing.

Manage, develop, train and mentor assigned tax staff and assess their performance for both engagement and year-end performance reviews.

Communicate and coordinate with our clients and help grow and foster our client relationships.

Qualifications

Required Skills and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or Business with 5+ years of related tax experience.

An active CPA license required.

Strong organizational, managerial and communication skills necessary to effectively and efficiently manage the engagements and communicate with our staff and clients.

Prior technical RIC and / or partnership tax technical experience as follows:

RIC. Tax compliance review, including the review of 1) fiscal year-end income & excise tax provisions, 2) quarterly asset diversification testing, 3) income and excise tax returns and 4) financial statement tax disclosures as well as the research, consulting and technical development skills necessary to handle RIC tax issues, including the taxation of financial products and derivatives, as appropriate.

Partnership. Hedge fund and private equity fund tax compliance review, including review of the partnership tax provisions, tax allocations and tax returns as well as the ability to effectively review and summarize partnership agreements and identify and analyze the domestic and international tax considerations as appropriate.
