Provide distinctive client service to a diverse client base assisting them with a variety of state and local sales and use tax issues including:
Nexus reviews
Taxability matrices
Audit defense
Voluntary disclosure agreements
Process reviews
Reverse audits
Tax technical assistance for sales tax automation projects
Written reports and opinions regarding sales and use tax issues
Must have good project management skills including budgeting, staffing, scheduling and billing
Ability to manage multiple projects and staff
Mentor and develop staff by providing constructive feedback on a regular basis and providing opportunities for development
Assist with business development opportunities including participation on sales efforts and support client business requirements in new and innovative ways
Participate in the overall development of the Grant Thornton brand through internal and external activities and thought leadership

Position: State & Local Tax - Indirect (Sales & Use) Tax Consulting Manager - CHICAGO

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


Bachelor's degree in accounting, or; other major with qualifying experience
CPA, JD/active law license, or CMI certification
Minimum of 5 years of applicable state and local sales and use tax experience
Strong tax technical, analytical and organizational skills
Detail oriented and ability to work with large volumes of data
Strong verbal and written communication skills for working with clients and staff as well as communicating with state and local government agencies
Ability to supervise staff and lead engagements
Strong computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Access, PowerPoint, Power BI)
Ability to work in time-compressed environment to meet deadlines
Public accounting experience is a plus
Aptitude for computer automated processes and data analysis
Some out-of-state travel will be necessary for visiting client sites but is not expected to exceed 10%
