Position Summary

Grant Thornton’s responsive, partner-led Tax service teams help dynamic companies navigate complexity and grow with insightful, practical tax advice. In addition to tax professionals in our offices across the United States, our Washington National Tax Office provides deep technical knowledge and responsive support in local, state, federal and international tax. Our tax services include: compliance, human capital services, federal tax services, international tax services, state and local tax services, private wealth services, tax reporting and advisory, partnership taxation, not-for-profit tax, and mergers & acquisition tax services.

National Tax Strategic Solutions (NTSS) has responsibility for the governance of the technology, processes, learning and execution of the overarching strategy for Grant Thornton’s tax practice. We are seeking an NTSS Tax Business Line Liaison Manager who has the skills and knowledge to contribute to this team, who is responsible to implement an execution-focused roll-out of Tax business lines that are aligned to the firm and Tax practice’s strategy, global values and vision. This is a full-time internal-facing and highly visible position working at a national level. The position would ideally be based in Phoenix, although there is some flexibility with location for the right candidate.

This position will work at national level with tax leadership. Collaboration will also be required with the existing professionals within NTSS and internal functions, such as our Business Technology and Learning & Operational Effectiveness service lines.

Serve as a strategic advisor to the National Managing Partners of assigned Tax Business Lines (“TBLs”) to advance growth and reputation in the market place.
Project manage and facilitate various strategic projects within the TBLs to include, but not limited to:
New integrated service offerings
Learning such as our flagship TaxU program
Driving service offerings based on legislative and regulatory changes.
Tax processes that include the GT Shared Services Center in Bangalore, India, known as INDUS.
Support the practice management for assigned Tax business lines, including the ability to analyze specific growth market metrics and sales pipeline reports.
Innovate on creative solutions to TBL issues and share best practices for other TBLs to emulate.
In conjunction with NTSS’s Process Development team, prioritize and coordinate the development, maintenance and continuous improvement of processes for assigned TBLs’ service offerings.
Facilitate the coordination of knowledge management and tool development activities with professionals in NTSS assigned to these areas.
Manage relationships with assigned TBL professionals in local Grant Thornton U.S. offices and the offshore services center, particularly counterparts involved in preparing and reviewing your assigned TBLs’ deliverables in Bangalore, India.
Adhere to the highest degree of professional standards and strict client confidentiality.
Attend professional development and training sessions on a regular basis.
Perform other job-related duties as necessary.



Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field. MST or MST candidate preferred.
Eight or more years of experience in a public accounting environment a plus.
Strategic thinker a must. Ability to see the big picture.
Tax accounting experience with proficiency in US GAAP, tax compliance, and one or more of the following areas required: corporate consolidated returns, consolidated federal tax returns, partnership returns, combined state tax returns and indirect tax.
Specialized tax skills in federal business and specialized tax consulting, and state and local tax consulting desired. Familiarity with mergers & acquisitions tax and partnership taxation.
International consulting a plus.
Strong proficiency with MS Office suite, including PowerPoint. Advanced knowledge of Excel, pivot tables and formulas desired. Knowledge of Visio and MS Project a plus.
Facilitation and presentation skills.
Must possess a process improvement and knowledge-sharing mindset.
Solid knowledge and understanding project planning/project leadership.
Strong decision-making organizational skills including effectively handling multiple assignments and leading multiple projects/initiatives simultaneously and prioritizing work effectively.
Ability to function within ambiguity and help bring clarity and/or resolution to complex situations and issues.
Experience effectively identifying, researching, and coordinating the resources necessary to troubleshoot/diagnose client and business issues; possesses ability to probe, research and gain knowledge and understanding of internal and external business and data flow processes.
Strong decision making skills including knowledge and experience with data flow process/procedures; must be able to research data fields and related data flow information and draw valid conclusions.
Experience with Microsoft SharePoint a plus.
Ability to communicate and execute effectively in cross-cultural business settings.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills mandatory.
