Global Mobility Tax Manager – Human Capital Services


Grant Thornton’s responsive, partner-led Tax service teams help dynamic companies navigate complexity and grow with insightful, practical tax advice. In addition to tax professionals in our offices across the United States, our Washington National Tax Office provides deep technical knowledge and responsive support in local, state, federal and international tax. Our tax services include: compliance, human capital services, federal tax services, international tax services, state and local tax services, private wealth services, tax reporting and advisory, partnership taxation, not-for-profit tax, and mergers & acquisition tax services.

Grant Thornton LLP seeks a Human Capital Services - Global Mobility Tax Manager. The Global Mobility Tax Manager is responsible for the delivery of a full range of global mobility services for multiple clients in a wide variety of industries. Responsibilities include interacting closely with clients to provide day-to-day management of international assignment programs, provide businesses and individuals with tax and social security planning, payroll consulting, and compliance expertise for a global workforce; developing and managing staff; working closely with partners and staff on client management, practice development and business development activities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


Take responsibility and ownership of the client relationship at the appropriate level in the client’s organization.
Manage client assignments that are sizable in both scope and scale, including interaction with Grant Thornton International member firms.
Oversee the efforts of multiple client services teams on client engagements and manages to budget.
Oversee the delivery of a full range of international tax services and advise US and foreign based multinational companies on the tax implications of their global workforce as well as coordinating US and foreign tax laws to develop an optimal global mobility strategy.
Consult with clients on tax-efficient structuring on international assignments, effective use of tax treaties, minimize worldwide tax burdens of business travelers, and manage risk associated with a global workforce.
Identifies wider Human Capital Services issues facing clients and works with the team to bring the right resources to manage these.

Technical Proficiency

Writes high quality tax advice and prepares professional presentations and documents to the standard required by senior staff and Partners.
Works with colleagues to develop solutions to complex technical issues.
Candidate will be familiar with individual income tax issues and tax law including foreign national and expatriate issues and foreign tax compliance.
Proficient with and able to advise clients on international assignment and tax policies, including equalization and protection processes.
Conduct primary and secondary review of complicated or complex US individual tax returns; coordinate global tax compliance services for clients.
Facilitate client understanding of international tax development implications.


Manage, develop, train, and mentor staff and assess performance.
Assists with staff technical training and development.
Proactively manages own career, seeking out opportunities to work on a variety of assignments to build on existing experience.


Manages work to ensure recover targets can be met, raises issues where appropriate
Works with Partner to raise invoices on a prompt basis
Understanding individual contribution to the team’s profitability
Meets own financial targets.

Bachelor’s degree in a related subject area.
Licensed CPA or Attorney designation required.
A minimum of four years of progressive tax consulting experience with at least three years focused on global mobility services. Experience with a Big 4 or mid-tier firm, law firm, or corporate global mobility department of a multinational company.
Experience working in employment tax, social security, and compensation and benefits services teams is desirable.
Superior analytical, technical, and tax accounting/technology skills with proficiency in individual tax consulting and compliance. Experience with inbound and outbound employee relocation consulting. Ability to effectively communicate cross border tax concepts to clients who are not tax specialists.
Demonstrated experience in practice development, business development, and managing seniors and staff.
Computer expertise including knowledge of tax software and technology.
