Learning & Organizational Effectiveness: Associate Director of Design & Development, Grant Thornton Partner Leadership Academy

Job Description:

The Associate Director of leadership program development for Grant Thornton Leadership Academy (GTLA) will have the responsibility of leading efforts to design, develop and maintain content to support the Partner Leadership Academy within GTLA. This role reports to the Senior Director of Leadership, having primary responsibility for driving new development and improving existing programs within the Partner Leadership Academy from conception through implementation.

Design: The Associate Director of Design and Development is responsible for improving existing design and creating new design elements, when appropriate, for multiple work streams within the Partner leadership Academy. In this role the individual works with internal and external stakeholders to understand the needs of the business, design high level and detailed level solutions around leadership that can be implemented in a rapid development cycle. The work exists for both session-based and asynchronous program elements.

The role interfaces with the internal project team, business stakeholders, the Senior Director, the Chief Learning & Leadership Officer and external thought leadership to collaboratively identify and address leadership development needs at the partner, principle and managing director levels, turning concepts into a design that will achieve the outcomes prioritized by the business. The individual must have the ability to turn abstract concepts and ideas into an understandable innovative designs that communicate the design elements and propose creative solutions to business partners and stakeholders.

Development: The Associate Director of Design and Development will also be responsible for the design and development of materials, supporting documentation, and other instruments used in the execution of both session-based and asynchronous learning elements and events – this can include specialized work in support of executive assessment, executive coaching, content curation and succession-planning elements The individual will be responsible for updating existing content and responsible for the development of new materials needed to support upcoming learning solutions, the detailed agenda and execution plans of experiential exercises, correlated activities and measurement strategies.

The Design and Development Associate Director will work directly with business leaders (GTLA faculty) within the academy to assist in the development of Key-Note addresses, session activities, curated content and supporting materials. The interaction and communication of direction to these senior leaders is critical to the success of the program and providing clear, concise, crisp communication with this group is an essential element of success.

Vendor Collaboration: Certain design elements, existing today, require the interface with external vendors. The individual in this role will have the responsibility to ensure that all vendor driven solutions are designed, developed and delivered with the overall integrity of the program in mind and that individual solutions developed by the vendor meet the needs of the program. Vendor selection and management capability will be essential in this role.

Core Responsibilities:

Creation, ownership, execution, and oversight of implementation of complex leadership programs to achieve and deliver effective learning/performance solutions
Exceed client expectations, drive accountability, support development through implementation of solutions (learning and non-learning) in all modalities, on time and on budget
Build, maintain, and utilize networks of relationships to manage and effectively utilize resources (internal and external), development workflow, quality work product and budget
Understand and utilize key industry, business and organizational metrics to support the strategy of the firm, and the business priorities of the client/practice supported
Work collaboratively to provide practical and targeted information/reporting to key stakeholders in a timely manner
Demonstrate transparency, build things once and share them, seek advice, feedback, openly and proactively share feedback with others in the moment and across time
Recognize and articulate the value of one’s own contribution and the contributions of others regularly with appreciation
Communicate value, influence unwilling audiences without authority
Provide input to Learning & OE Relationship Directors, managers and staff for assigned service line/business unit
Design programs that support the Relationship Director and Instructional Design team to ensure that all CPE worthy learning solutions comply with NASBA, PCAOB and other governing and regulatory body requirements
Challenge the Senior Director and the entire team’s current design thinking to push L&OE and GT to innovate new ways to advance leadership skills and core leadership competency capabilities.
Share designs, measurement systems and results with L&OE Directors proactively and with transparency so that the entirety of L&OE can benefit from lessons learned and to avoid duplication of effort.
Collaborate with knowledge managers to incorporate systematic performance support options to learning and organization effectiveness solutions.


The ideal candidate will be:

Experienced with the design of senior leadership development programs for partners, principles and managing directors, creating innovative and experiential designs within an existing design framework and designing new frameworks when required.
Able to connect the design of live, synchronous and asynchronous experiential activities/programs to core and key business issues leaders are facing and then customize and build capability strengths that help leaders achieve success at Grant Thornton.
A seasoned learning consultant in the leadership development space with the ability to work with senior business stakeholders to translate needs into an innovative, achievable design
A development expert, developing challenging and advanced session-based and asynchronous materials for learning events that produce measurable skill capability outcomes
Agile and nimble, creating materials, content curation/tagging and supporting documentation in a fast-paced environment
Flexible, with the capacity to design and develop content for multiple work streams with multiple stakeholders
An individual with experience clearly communicating with executive-level stakeholders and presenters to drive curriculum development
Motivated to drive outcomes that arrive at consensus with a wide array of stakeholders quickly
A curator of learning, with the ability to survey, identify and make changes to an existing curriculum in a continuous improvement environment
A team player, both from an internal and external project team perspective

The Ideal Candidate Will Possess:

Bachelor's degree and a minimum of seven years of proven success in progressive leadership development roles, ideally in a matrixed environment within a professional services industry
Knowledge of how professional service firms and their various business segments work, how they make a profit and what makes them successful
Experience developing, designing and implementing executive leadership development for future enterprise leaders, succession planning and executive coaching and assessment frameworks
Ability to run meetings and manage a portfolio of deliverables in one or more client business segments
A reputation for discretion, integrity, judgment, responsiveness, strong attention to detail and common sense
Strong verbal, written communication & presentation skills
Solid PC skills with expert proficiency in MS Office – specifically Word, Excel and PowerPoint
Ability to travel for events (20-25%)
