The Tax Financial Operations Manager reports to Tax’s Financial Operations Leader and supports our Northeast and Southeast Regions and the Regional Tax Practice Leaders. This role works closely with the other Regional and National Financial Operations Leads across the Tax Service Line and firm-wide, as well as within the firm’s other core Finance functions (Planning & Investment, Enterprise Reporting & Analytics) to provide consistent and collaborative support and analysis. The role requires strong analytical and communication skills, and the ability to identify and recommend process improvements.

Lead Financial Operations in the Northeast and Southeast Regions, working closely with Regional Tax leadership and Financial Operations support to drive excellence in operational and financial performance
Optimizes intersection of client revenue demand and workforce labor supply. Monitor and understand our Opportunity Pipeline (CRM) and incorporate this information into our forecasts and projections. Liaise closely with the Capacity & Resource Management group to optimize headcount planning. Engage regularly with Tax FinOps Leader to ensure synchronization and synergies (analysis, reporting, information delivery) across the Service Line
Prepare and deliver monthly Management Discussion & Analysis (MD&A) and Business Unit Reviews (BUR) with a deep dive into current and future state projections, trends, and courses of action; lead Financial discussions and presentations on Regional Tax leadership calls; actively review and analyze sales and project performance KPI
Optimizes working capital and accurate revenue recognition through monitoring engagement A/R, WIP, and Reserves. Work closely with engagement partner(s) and managers to understand any issues with collecting or billing
Serve as an escalation point of contact to help guide our client-facing professionals through any and all administrative processes, including client invoicing, expense management, subcontractors, WIP/budget-to-actuals, project management, A/P management, etc.
Work closely with Financial Operations support and Engagement Partners to understand significant project risks and mitigate financial exposure; closely monitor assignment margins to ensure we are meeting our financial commitments; have an overall desire to ensure that our teams understand “the business of our business”
Regularly review your Region’s standard reporting packages and provide detailed analysis and breakdown of information and recommended actions to drive operational and financial improvements
Develop and implement streamlined and proven methodologies and operational best practices that allow us to manage our business with completeness and accuracy; identify areas for improvement to standardize operating and reporting functions across the Tax Service Line
Liaise closely and collaborate regularly with other core and centrally-managed Internal Client Service (“ICS”) functions across within your Regions, the Tax Service Line and firm-wide
Prepare ad hoc reports and analysis as requested

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or related field
Minimum seven years of relevant experience
Experience in professional services industry required
Must possess a strong understanding of business operations and ability to align operations with business goals
Ability to meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment and to handle multiple assignments, projects, and responsibilities simultaneously producing accurate, timely results
Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
Strong project management skills
Ability to work independently with little direct supervision
Communicate well with all levels of professional team, with emphasis on working effectively with senior management and firm leadership
Ability to anticipate potential obstacles, take proactive steps to avoid them and complete projects accurately and timely
Provide highest quality work product; demonstrate detail oriented focus
Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities
Ability to work additional hours as needed and occasionally travel to other office locations
Advanced skills in Microsoft Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint and Power BI). SharePoint skills a plus
Must have a “client service” mind set and understand our business from the perspective of both a practitioner and business operator
Travel < 25%
