The Tax Marketing Director will devise and implement marketing plans and campaigns that build Grant Thornton’s brand and create opportunities for partners, directors and business developers to acquire new clients and expand business with existing clients. Key objectives include growing revenue for the Tax practice, and enhancing the Grant Thornton brand reputation among clients and prospects within the service line. Major responsibilities include working closely with the National Managing Partner of Tax and the Tax Leadership team in establishing and managing marketing plans and budgets that drive awareness, consideration, and acquisition among Grant Thornton client and prospects. This Service Line Marketing Director role reports directly to the Head of Campaign Strategy.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Develop and lead implementation of an integrated, national marketing strategy for the Tax practice across digital channels, media, content, experiential, and other relevant marketing tactics

Manage the portfolio of Tax marketing programs / campaigns by rigorously evaluating return on investment and performance to established goals and metrics

Creative and innovative in approach to assessing and developing new campaigns for the portfolio

In setting campaign strategy for the practice, author and review campaign briefs and work with specialized marketing teams (e.g., digital, content, design) to deliver programs that achieve goals

Collaborate with the Tax partner leadership team to define targeting strategy, identify priority accounts and then execute strategies against target firms for business development focus.

Collaborate with the Head of Campaign Strategy, other Service Line Managing Partners, various Tax Service Line Partners and National Marketing team members to improve best practices in Tax marketing

Provide marketing analysis, including competitive intelligence and market share analysis.

Effectively evaluate alternatives and communicate costs, benefits and risks of marketing programs

Coordinate development of content within the Service Line, attend Service Line meetings, and become an expert in Service Line issues.

Work with the Communications team to generate press coverage, uncover speaking opportunities and develop other publicity opportunities and events.

Provide advice and guidance on specific business opportunities. Become an informal knowledge sharing conduit amongst partners and directors relative to Service Line, skill set and networking connections

Provide leadership to the practice with analysis of net revenue growth, return on investment, and marketing performance metrics for identified industries, and lines of business.

Lead, support, guide, and mentor people within the organization to grow their skills and help them meet their career aspirations
Ensure that Tax practices have the requisite assets they need to sell and market their practice in their day-to-day business development activities



Bachelor’s degree in business, communications, marketing, or related field. MBA strongly preferred.

15 plus years of experience and track record of success in services and B2B marketing

Driven by metrics and goals; embraces a strong analytical approach to marketing – the science side of marketing

Knowledge of tax related marketing is a strong benefit

High level of demonstrated marketing expertise across multiple channels including, and especially, digital programs. Deeply conversant in and familiar with landscape of digital tools and tactics.

Proven ability to build and lead a team, and willingness to mentor people, whether direct reports or otherwise

Strong stakeholder management skills, with the proven ability to lead and influence across all levels of the organization

Strong strategic skills – ability to plan, strategize, and identify key issues

Creative thinker with ability to ideate and identify new strategies, programs and tactics, and then execute same with excellence and a focus on generating positive ROI
