Independence and Ethics Compliance Audit Associate

Position Summary

The Independence and Ethics Compliance Audit Associate is a member of the Independence and Ethics Compliance team of Grant Thornton’s National Professional Standards Group

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Under the supervision of a manager, assist with the compliance audits of individual independence certifications and individual self-reported financial interests in the Global Independence System to ensure that individuals selected for audit have reported all of their financial interests on their independence certification and in the Global Independence System completely, timely and accurately.
Evaluate whether or not all financial relationships reported comply with firm policies and regulatory independence quality control standards.
Prepare audit summaries documenting all actions taken, conclusions reached, and the respective rationale.
Provide follow-up communications with partners and personnel to ensure that all supporting documentation has been submitted and all identified independence issues have been reported and resolved.
Recommend revisions and improvements to the audit program and audit process.
Review Firm partner and personnel’s independence certifications (INC) to identify potential independence issues and provide recommendations for remedial action where applicable.
Conduct research to identify client investees of private equity groups, client affiliates, and investment company complex members for various databases.
Assist with maintaining and updating independence databases.
Fulfill other job expectations through:
Developing a broad base of independence expertise by learning and applying the SEC AICPA, DOL, and firm independence rules to a variety of situations.
Adhering to the highest degree of professional standards and strict confidentiality in matters that require discretion.
Attending professional development and training sessions.
Perform other job-related duties as requested related to the independence quality control system.
Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Qualifications and Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, economics, finance, information systems or other business or analytical discipline.
Strong attention to details.
Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
Excellent problem solving and analytical skills.
Ability to effectively multitask in a demanding and deadline-driven environment.
Flexibility and ability to prioritize tasks.
Ability to interface with all levels of personnel.
Ability to execute instructions.
Strong team player.
Technical proficiency with computer technology, including databases.
Ability to work additional hours as needed.
1-2 years of relevant business or equivalent experience.
CPA or related certification a plus, but not required.
Experience in a national public accounting firm as an auditor a plus, but not required.
