National Tax Strategic Solutions Sr. Associate - Tax Tools & Technology 

POSITION SUMMARY:

National Tax Strategic Solutions (NTSS) has responsibility for the governance of the technology, processes, learning and execution of the overarching strategy for Grant Thornton’s tax practice. We are seeking an NTSS Senior Associate who has the skills and knowledge to contribute to this team and an interest in understanding how a major accounting firm’s tax practice is managed at the top level, based on our firm’s global vision, strategy and values. This is a full-time internal-facing and highly visible position working at a national level. Based in Phoenix, Portland, Dallas, or San Diego, this position will require limited domestic travel.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

As an NTSS Senior Associate, you will contribute to the implementation of our Tax strategy at both a strategic and operational level. Additionally, you will contribute your knowledge and skills to the team, mentor tax interns and associates, build new skillsets, be involved in community activities, and build lasting relationships with members of the Grant Thornton team. Collaboration will be required with the existing professionals within NTSS and internal functions, such as the Information Technology and Strategic Learning service lines. Your position will include, but will not be limited to, the following:

Assisting NTSS management with tools and technology-related projects and initiatives:
Provide project management support to assist in implementing and/or maintaining firmwide standardized tax tools used by hundreds of Grant Thornton tax professionals on a daily basis
Facilitate the development and maintenance of new and existing Excel-based tools, including leading requirements gathering sessions and developing project plans
Draft communications relating to tool and technology releases and updates (e.g., announcements, memoranda, quick start cards)
Support the development and delivery of tools and technology-related learning programs
Leveraging your tax technical and technology skills when working with subject matter specialists to develop and/or enhance our firmwide standardized tax tools
Supporting the U.S. Tax practice through responding to questions regarding technology and tools using our online feedback tool, Score, and assisting associates and interns with ticket escalations
Testing and validation of new features and bug fixes to our proprietary Tax Ribbon add-in, which drives the functionality of our tax tools and increases efficiency for our tax professionals
Testing, as needed, our proprietary Tax Symphony® system, the client service delivery methodology for tax engagements
Leveraging your tax technical and technology skills when working with subject matter specialists to develop and/or enhance our firmwide standard tax tools
Mentoring tax interns and associates; collaborating within National Tax Strategic Solutions, others in the Tax practice and throughout the firm, which include India-based shared service center Tax professionals
Attending professional development and training sessions with a commitment to excellence and the highest of content retention
Performing other job-related duties as necessary

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field. CPA preferred
Two to five years of experience in a public accounting environment a plus
The willingness and ability to work additional hours, as needed, and travel if needed

SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
Demonstrated project management experience including project planning and time management
Must possess a process improvement and knowledge-sharing mindset
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including an ability and willingness to communicate and execute effectively in complex, cross-cultural, geographically distributed business settings
Strong interpersonal, attention to detail, and creative problem-solving skills
Ability to function in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment with strong time management and administrative skills
Strong technology skills and proven ability to learn new applications
Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite, particularly Excel. Knowledge of Visio, Project and SharePoint a plus
Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including macros and VBA, and/or programming experience considered a plus
Experience with tax software a plus, particularly GoSystem
Strong tax accounting skills with proficiency in US GAAP
Extensive tax compliance experience in corporate, flow-through, trust, individual, state and international tax returns
Specialized tax skills in ASC 740 (FAS 109), FIN 48, state and local tax consulting. International consulting a plus
Ability to maintain strict confidentiality
Ability to travel as necessary, up to 20%
Internal candidate preferred
